Economic demand analysis for electricity in West Africa

Journal Article · · Energy J.; (United States)
An economic analysis of electricity demand in the six countries of West Africa compares the price and income elasticity of the residential and the commercial/industrial sectors. Although researchers analyzing energy demand in the developing countries argue that income elasticities in the residential sector should be higher and price elasticities lower than in the developed countries, five of the countries show value in the same range as developed economies. The comparative elasticities may be linked to electricity consumption and economic output and to the efficiency of production in the individual industrial sectors. 7 references, 2 tables.
