The transmission and reflection properties of compressive waves at a plane interface between uniform nonmagnetic and magnetic regions in the absence of gravity are examined. Using stereographic polar projection, these properties are presented as functions of the two angles determining the direction of incidence. It is shown that the reflection coefficient and the direction of propagation of the transmitted wave are dependent on the direction of propagation of the incident wave for several representative parametric values. It is found that the incident, reflected, and transmitted wavenumber vectors always lie in the same plane, although the group velocity of the transmitted wave does not always lie in this plane. When the transmitted wave is a fast mode, there is generally weak reflection. 11 refs.
