Absence of a deconfining phase transition in SU(2) gauge theory

We present an argument showing the absence of a phase transition in SU(2) gauge theory. The argument proceeds by an estimate on the electric flux-free energy which, using a conjectured inequality, is found to exhibit confining behavior for arbitrary bare coupling, for d< or =4.
