Low-Peclet-number convection past a spheroid in a saturated porous medium

The method of matched asymptotic expansions is used to obtain the temperature profiles for flow past a prolate spheroid with constant heat flux at its surface. The expansions are valid for small Peclet and Rayleigh numbers. For the special case of a sphere, the expansions are obtained analytically. In the general case, it is necessary to numerically sum several series. Finally, it is shown how these solutions could be used to measure groundwater velocities.
