Type 1a supernova 1986G in NGC 5128 - optical photometry and spectra

Journal Article · · Publ. Astron. Soc. Pac.; (United States)
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1086/132020· OSTI ID:5839160

Optical light curves and spectra of the type Ia supernova 1986G in NGC 5128 are presented. Data on the color evolution, spectral evolution, interstellar absorption lines, and the effect of reddening on the (B-V) colors are presented and described. The observations unambiguously demonstrate that genuine differences do exist between Type 1a supernovae. Consequently, these objects must be used with considerable caution as cosmological standard candles. 59 references.
