This patent describes a bipolar metal-gas battery cell stack. The battery is composed of several electrically series-connected stacked cells each having one negative electrode and one positive electrode, wherein series electrical connections between oppositely polarized electrodes of adjacent cells are made external to the cells; means for confining electrolyte within each cell; and means for confining overcharged gasses within each cell at a region proximate the positive electrode.
