A lubricating oil additive is described comprising a mixture of phosphates, the phosphates being essentially free of monothiophosphates and comprising: (a) dihydrocarbyl hydrogen dithiophosphates; and (b) a sulfur-free mixture of hydrocarbyl dihydrogen phosphates and dihydrocarbyl hydrogen phosphates, the composition being at least 50% neutralized by a hydrocarbyl amine having 10 to 30 carbons in the hydrocarbyl group.
