Fluid injection gas turbine engine and method for operating

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5833839
This patent describes a gas turbine engine system. This system consists of: a gas turbine engine, a compressor, a combustor, and a turbine. The combustor generates a gaseous combustor effluent. A supply of the fluid having a specific heat at constant pressure, (CRHO) greater than the CRHO, of the combustor effluent. A fluid introduction component which introduces the fluid from the supply of fluid into the engine. A fluid control operatively connects with the fluid introduction component to control the introduction of fluid into the engine. This system also consists of a system control and the combination wherein: 1.) the engine is designed and constructed to operate without fluid introduction as a gas turbine engine at a preferred thermal efficiency range in a predetermined preferred compressor flow pressure ratio range, and in a predetermined preferred turbine flow pressure ratio range; and 2.) the system control includes: a compressor sensing to sense actual compressor operating parameters sufficient to identify the operating compressor flow pressure ratio; a turbine sensor to sense actual turbine operating parameters sufficient to identify the operating turbine flow pressure ratio; a device to transmit the compressor control signal and the turbine control signal to the system control; 3.) the system control further including a component to compare the sensed and transmitted compressor control signal and the turbine control signal with the predetermined compressor and turbine preferred flow pressure ratio ranges.
