Isovector spin-isospin mode analog giant resonances in /sup 13/B by /sup 13/C(e,. pi. /sup +/) /sup 13/B

Strong spin-isospin mode isovector analog states were studied in differential cross section measurements (0.6< or approx. =q< or approx. =1.5 fm/sup -1/) of the reaction /sup 13/C(..gamma..,..pi../sup +/) /sup 13/B up to 12 MeV excitation energy in /sup 13/B. The photopion reaction predominantly excites M2 states at low q and M4 states at high q, with both peaking in the energy region of 6--7 MeV in /sup 13/B (21--22 MeV in /sup 13/C). The results are compared with predicted M2 and M4 relative strength distributions and also with the available data on radiative capture of stopped pions and inelastic electron scattering.
