Angular correlations between heavy ions and. cap alpha. particles in /sup 16/O+ /sup 27/Al collisions at 87. 4 MeV: evidence of sequential decay of projectilelike fragments

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)
Angular correlations have been investigated between projectilelike fragments (from Li to O) and ..cap alpha.. particles in /sup 16/O+/sup 27/Al collisions at 87.4 MeV. For C-..cap alpha.. and O-..cap alpha.. correlations, clear evidence of the sequential ..cap alpha.. decays of projectilelike fragments was observed at forward angles. In /sup 27/Al(/sup 16/O,/sup 12/C(g.s.)..cap alpha..)/sup 27/Al(g.s.), the reaction proceeds mainly via the sequential ..cap alpha.. decay of the excited /sup 16/O nucleus at E/sub x/approx. =10, 11.6, 13.2, 15.2, 16.2, and 21 MeV. For the O-..cap alpha.. case, evidence of the sequential ..cap alpha.. decay of /sup 20/Ne( (E/sub x/approx. =8.7, 12.0, and 15.2 MeV) was observed.
