System and method for controlling ignition timing for an internal combustion engine

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5831747
This patent describes a system for controlling ignition timing for a vehicular internal combustion engine, comprising: (a) means for detecting an engine operating condition; (b) means for calculating a change rate of an engine revolution speed (c) means for determining whether the engine operating condition is transferred to an engine load region (d) means for deriving a basic ignition timing angle on the basis of the engine operating condition (e) fifth means for setting a first correction coefficient on the basis of which the basic ignition timing angle (f) means for detecting whether a knocking is generated in the engine; (g) means for calculating an ignition timing angle correction amount for correcting the basic ignition timing angle (h) means for correcting the basic ignition timing angle (i) ninth means for igniting air-fuel mixture supplied to each engine cylinder at an ignition timing angle corrected by the eighth means. It also describes a method for controlling ignition timing for a vehicular internal combustion engine, comprising the steps of: (a) detecting an engine operating condition; (b) calculating a change rate of an engine revolution speed on the basis of the engine operating condition detected in the step (a); (c) determining whether the engine operating condition is transferred to an engine load region (d) deriving a basic ignition timing angle on the basis of the engine operating condition detected in the step.
