Downhole-crosshole high resolution seismic reflection profiling to resolve detailed coal seam structure. Paper C1. 3. [Australia]

OSTI ID:5825497

By vertically traversing a seismic source in one borehole and simultaneously a seismometer in an adjacent hole it is possible to obtain horizontal reflection profile interfaces between the holes. Using marine sparker sources with suitable source spectra and repeatability for vertical stacking and hydrophone receivers, the seismic data are acquired on LSI 11/23 in-field microcomputers. The VDU and graphics printer replace conventional seismic cameras and permit on-line signal and data processing for recording and plotting results in the field. The system has been tested in the coalfields of eastern Australia.
