Transport behavior of iodine in effluent radioactivity monitoring systems

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5823922
Tests conducted on a mockup of the sample line of an effluent radioactivity monitoring system at a nuclear power plant are described. The tests evaluate the ability of the radioactivity monitoring system sample lines to transmit radioactive elemental iodine during transient conditions. The sample line was tested initially with manufacturing contamination left in the line; then was cleaned and retested to evaluate the effect of cleaning on transient performance. The sample line tested was of sufficient size to have acceptable performance during a nuclear reactor accident. The tests were conducted in a laboratory where radioactive iodine could be generated safely, test variables closely controlled, and test data measured. 5 refs., 11 figs., 9 tabs.
