A theoretical model of the standby energy losses of an electric water heater was developed. The application of the model identified the energy losses for variations of tanks sizes, insulation installed and inlet/outlet pipe types and insulation. Overall heater efficiencies for the base case were related to the size of tank and daily amount of hot water usage.
