New technologies for gas energy supply and efficient use

Book ·
OSTI ID:5820513
This booklet brings together key information on some of the major new technologies both for increasing gas supplies and for making more-efficient utilization of gas energy. Gas supply technologies addressed are: Devonian shale, tight sands, geopressured gas resources, coal-seam methane, in-situ coal gasification, gas from marine and land biomass, gas from organic and municipal wastes, peat gasification, gas hydrates, and hydrogen. Gas utilization technologies covered are: gas/solar energy systems, gas heat pumps, fuel cells, and ultrahigh efficiency furnaces. A description, major impediments to commercialization, major current programs, and recommendations for additional research and demonstration are given. (MCW)
