TRAC-PD2 developmental assessment

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5817864
The TRAC-PD2 program provides capability for pressurized water reactors and best-estimate predictions of postulated accidents for many thermal-hydraulic test facilities. The code features a three-dimensional treatment of the pressure vessel and its associated internals; two-phase, nonequilibrium hydrodynamic models; flow-regime-dependent constitutive relations; optional reflood tracking capability for bottom-flood and falling-film quench fronts; and consistent treatment of entire accident sequences including the generation of consistent steady-state conditions. This report describes the final results of the developmental assessment analyses conducted during the later stages of the TRAC-PD2 development. The calculations discussed in this report used the released version of TRAC-PD2 and cover separate-effects blowdown, heat transfer, and downcomer penetration tests together with integral tests from the Loss-of-Fluid Test and Semiscale facilities. Although these calculations are not an exhaustive test of the code, they demonstrate its capabilities, including automatic steady-state initialization and the complete transient from blowdown through refill and reflood. The results show good agreement between the calculated parameters and the data and indicate that the code is applicable to large-break loss-of-coolant accident analyses.
