Asia/Pacific report. Action booming upstream and downstream
The oil industry is flourishing in that Asian region along the important seaways connecting the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Plans and projects ranging from exploration and production through refining and petrochemicals abound. Driving them forward, often in partnership, are multinationals, large independents, and state oil companies. This combination of participants and the balance of upstream and downstream work adds up to a rare microcosm of today's oil world. The major oil arena in SE Asia covers 5 countries and one sultanate - Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Brunei. Whether importers or exporters, they are enjoying new stature and power as a result of the oil and gas boom revived by high energy prices.
