Magnetic field dependence of the Josephson current in two-dimensional tunnel junctions

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. B: Condens. Matter; (United States)
We present a theoretical analysis of the large-area two-dimensional Josephson junction placed in an external magnetic field. The model is based on an exact analytical solution of the sine-Gordon equation in two spatial dimensions. A simple procedure is suggested for finding the static phase distribution /phi/(/ital x/,/ital y/) within the junction. Next, the total current is calculated as a function of an external magnetic field. Further possibilities as well as limitations of the method are also discussed.
