Title: Low-rank coal oil agglomeration

Abstract

This patent describes a method of producing low ash, low moisture coal agglomerate. It comprises size- reducing coal particles to a size that passes through a 60 mesh standard sieve screen; adjusting the pH of the particles to 5 or less with an acid which facilitates removal of cations from carboxylic acid salts with the mineral phase of the low moisture coal; mixing the size-reduced particles with from about 20% by weight to about 50% by weight of a coal tar unprocessed derived bridging oil; and agglomerating the size reduced particles.
