Chemical data for twenty-two public water supplies from Chillicothe, Ohio to Ambia, Indiana indicate water types ranging from CaHCO[sub 3] to CaSO[sub 4]. Location of the Teays Valley incorporates information from 1985 maps showing bedrock topography of the Teays in Indiana and a 1986 map of thickness of glacial deposits in Ohio. A down-valley array shows a succession from CaHCO[sub 3] to CaSO[sub 4] to CaHCO[sub 3] type. Bedrock incised by the Teays Valley as shown on the Geologic MaD of North America appears in a symmetrical pattern across the Cincinnati arch. From margins of the study area (Chillicothe, Ohio and Ambia, Indiana) toward the center (the Ohio-Indiana border), units succeed generally from Upper Devonian (D[sub 3]), to Middle Devonian (D[sub 2]), to Middle and Upper Silurian (S[sub 2] and S[sub 3]), to upper Ordovician (O[sub 3]). Groundwater data from the same unit but from opposite flanks of the arch cluster as shown on the Piper diagram. Influence of bedrock on composition of groundwater from unconsolidated aquifers in the Teays Valley is evident.
