Title: Probing the microstructure of the giant dipole resonance in /sup 208/Pb

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)

Elastic scattering of monochromatic photons (..delta..Eapprox.25 eV) at 8999, 10055, and 11388 keV was used to probe the microstructure of known bumps in the low-energy tail of the giant dipole resonance in /sup 208/Pb. The scattered radiation is found to be predominantly dipole. The results set an upper limit to the widths of the 10.06 and 11.3 MeV bumps.
