Principles for Electric Power Policy analyzes the probable interactions of future electrical power developments and governmental policies. This book demonstrates that the role of electric power will be even larger in America's future than in its past; that the uncertainties that currently hamper electric planning will continue for at least a decade; and that the single most efficient means of achieving the policy flexibility necessary in such an uncertain environment is a renewed commitment to both technological and non-technological ''electric power'' research. This book presents six scenarios for future growth in electric power, based on various assumptions about society and various rates of growth in GNP and in energy demand. Six background chapters summarize relevant aspects of various fields that affect electric power. They also direct the reader to references from which highly detailed information and technical support may be drawn. The concluding chapter provides a historical perspective on the evolution of electric power. This principal appendix presents the complete results of an expert opinion survey covering a broad range of economic, environmental, demographic, and energy related subjects. Its bibliography is a rich source of references to both historical and technical data.
