Evaluation of performance for a breadbox solar water heater in Iowa

The design and testing of a passive water heater are presented. The design selected was a breadbox type with heat-tape wrapped piping for freeze protection. Monitoring of the water heating system consisted of recording the power consumed by the heat tape and the power used from the storage tank. System performance ranged between 545 and 8090 Btu/day average output and efficiencies ranging fraom 9 to 56%. (BCS)
