Tunable picosecond infrared pulse generation from a mode-locked F/sub A/ (II) color-center laser

Mode locking of the F/sub A/ (II) color-center laser by synchronous pumping is demonstrated. Pulse widths as short as 75 psec were obtained by extending the cavity in a N/sub 2/-purged atmosphere. The dependences of the pulse phase delay on the cavity length and pump power were evaluated to be 16 psec ..mu..m/sup -1/ and 0.5 psec mW/sup -1/.
