Measurement of the two-photon decay width of the eta-meson with the PEP4 facility

The two-photon production of the eta meson has been observed, and a value has been determined for the two photon eta decay width by a measurement of the cross section sigma(e/sup +/e/sup -/ ..-->.. e/sup +/e/sup -/eta) where eta ..-->.. ..gamma gamma... The measurement was made with the PEP4 facility at the PEP e/sup +/e/sup -/ collider, with an accumulated data sample of 67.5 Pb/sup -1/. The eta ..-->.. ..gamma gamma.. events were both triggered and detected by the Pole Tip Calorimeter. The measured two-photon eta decay width is Gamma/sub eta..gamma gamma../ = 0.61 +/- 0.13(statistical) +/- 0.12(systematic) keV.
