Chiral anomalies and the chiral Lagrangian

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:5795121
A heuristic discussion of the topological meaning of anomalies is given in the framework recently introduced by Alvarez. Its application to the sigma model anomalies is also given. The incorporation of chiral anomalies into the chiral Lagrangian is discussed in a simple manner. The Wess-Zumino term and the sigma model anomalies for the effective theory are explained. As an implication of chiral anomalies, the chiral soliton model is described. Its relation to QCD in large N is discussed in detail. Quantization of the soliton is done in the path integral formalism.
