CAE from the control system electrical perspective
- Bechtel Corp., Automation Technology, Houston, TX (US)
This paper presents an overview of some of the control system/electrical CAD/CAE application packages. The CAIES (Computer-Aided Instrument and Electrical System) is a major automation tool for the technology-driven control system and electrical disciplines. This integrated package incorporates the single point of entry philosophy with the implementation of sophisticated data manipulation techniques. The emphasis during development was placed on improving overall accuracy, project-specific flexibility, standardization, and reduction to total cost by the elimination of redundant and rework activities. The implications of CAD/CAE automation are enhanced man power utilization, improved accuracy, and reduced total cost for clients. CAIES currently has 4 external licensed users and has been utilized on nearly 30 in-house projects (primarily petro-chemical) both domestically and internationally.
