A study has been made of the solubilities of Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe in water-methanol systems with various deuterium substitutions, at 278-318/sup 0/K. Isotope effects have been calculated in the solubilities of these gases; and on the basis of these results, it has been shown that the process of dissolution of Ar, Kr, and Xe in pure methanol and in its concentrated aqueous solutions is determined by structural and energy factors. The dissolution of Ne, regardless of the mixture composition, is determined solely by the structural factor. It has also been found that the van der Waals interaction of water and alcohol does not have any significant influence on the process of stabilizing the network of H-bonds in a dilute solution of methanol in water.
