Study of the production of leptonic. mu. /sup -/e/sup +/ pairs in the neutrino experiment in the SKAT chamber

We report results of a search and investigation for processes of ..mu../sup -/e/sup +/ pair production in ..nu../sub ..mu../N interactions at energies up to 30 GeV. The ratio N (..nu../sub ..mu../N..--> mu../sup -/e/sup +/+hadrons)/n (..nu../sub ..mu../N ..--> mu../sup -/+hadrons) is found to be 0.7 +- 0.4%. The two events recorded do not exclude their interpretation as the formation and subsequent leptonic decay of a heavy neutral lepton with mass 1.4< or =m (M/sup 0/) < or =2.4 GeV/c/sup 2/.
