Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) conducts a large number of educational outreach activities at both the precollege and postsecondary levels. These activities are concentrated in the regions near our two major facilities (in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Livermore, California) but include efforts to interact with students and teachers over long distances. Through our efforts and our work with other US Department of Energy (DOE) educational activities, we have learned many lessons about what it takes to create and conduct successful education intervention programs. This paper provides a brief overview of some of our activities and lessons learned.
