In 1988 Calvert Cliffs Units 1 and 2 adopted a primary chemistry control program whereby pH was elevated by using concentrations of lithium hydroxide greater than normally used. The objective was to keep out-of-core radiation fields from increasing and perhaps even to reduce them. After half a cycle of operation with this control scheme, radiation fields have decreased slightly in Unit 2 and there have been no unfavorable effects. The experience at Calvert Cliffs is described and compared with other plants which have tested this chemistry.
