Process for delayed coking of coking feedstocks

This patent describes a delayed coking process. It comprises: introducing a coker feed to a combination tower; fractionating the coker feed in the combination tower to provide a first cokable portion containing easily cokable components and a second cokable portion essentially free of easily cokable components; heating the first cokable portion to a temperature below 900{degree}F; heating the second cokable portion to a temperature at which a combination of the first cokable portion and the second cokable portion provides a combined feed which is at coking temperatures of from about 780{degree}F to about 950{degree}F; and coking the combined feed at coking temperatures of from about 780{degree}F to about 950{degree}F.
