Title: Comparative analysis of the life cycle costs of compliance coal versus noncompliance coal with regenerable FGD equipment at Brandon Shores Units 1 and 2. Volume 1. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5787392

The relative costs of burning compliance coal and high sulfur coal with sulfur oxide removal are compared for the Brandon Shores Power Plant. Because of the plant's location next to potential markets for sulfur, sulfuric acid, and gypsum, only regenerable scrubbers were considered. The marketability of these products was surveyed and costs of coal and capital equipment were projected. For this plant, it was found that unless a highly optimistic scenario was adopted, compliance coal was the preferred option. The review of markets may be useful for comparison with non-regenerable scrubbers for new plants where scrubbers are required.
