Sulfur-nitrogen-containing analogs of dibenzo-15-crown-5 as extraction reagents for the selective isolation of mercury
On the seven sulfur-nitrogen-containing derivatives of dibenzo-15-crown-5 studied, the following are selective reagents with respect to mercury: 2,3:8,9-dibenzo-13-tosyl-4,7-dioxa-1,10,13-triazacyclopentadecane and 2,3:8,9- dibenzo-13-thia-4,7-dioxa-1,10-diazacyclopentadecane (R). The best counter-ions are sulfophthalein dyes. In the presence of an anion (An/sup -/), a compound with ratio Hg:R:An/sup -/=1:1:1 is extracted. An extraction-spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of mercury directly in the extract by the addition of a solution of dithizon in chloroform. The limit of detection of mercury was 0.04 ..mu..g/ml. The procedure can be used for the determination of mercury in natural waters with a low salt composition.
