Spin and parity of the 6. 699 MeV level in /sup 17/F

/sup 16/O(p,p)/sup 16/O measurements near E/sub p/ = 6.482 MeV and phase shift analysis of the data permits an unambiguous J/sup ..pi../ = 5/2/sup +/ assignment to the narrow level at E/sub x/(/sup 17/F) = 6.699 MeV that was previously listed as 3/2/sup -/. The level parameters suggest correspondence to a predicted 5p-4h state at E/sub x/ = 5.91 MeV in A = 17 nuclei.
