Rheological behavior of concentrated suspensions of kaolinite-carbamide intercalates

The influence of the carbamide concentration on the viscosity of aqueous suspensions of Glukhovetsk kaolinite and kaolinite-carbamide intercalates has been investigated. The addition of carbamide reduces the viscosity of all investigated suspensions. At low carbamide concentrations the lower viscosities are obtained with the nonintercalated kaolinite, at high concentrations with the intercalated product. The suspensions must be plasticized at a minimum concentration of carbamide in order to avoid intercalation of the kaolinite.
