Results of long term environmental exposure on solar collectors and their materials

Conference · · Proc. Annu. Meet. - Am. Sect. Int. Sol. Energy Soc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5778275
A research effort on the effect on flat plate solar collectors and their materials to long term exposure to the environment has been underway since October 1978 at the Lockheed Solar Collector Test Facility, Palo Alto, CA, as part of the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) Solar Collector Durability/Reliability Test Program. In this program various types of flat plate collectors, cover plates, and absorber materials are being exposed at different locations with performance measurements made periodically to determine their degradation, if any. Changes in thermal performance of collectors are being compared by NBS to changes in optical properties of their materials. The performance of various collectors and the materials exposed at the Lockheed Test Site as a function of exposure time is presented.
