Title: Commercialization of industrial gas engine driven heat pumps

Conference · · Energy Technol. (Wash., D.C.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5775963

The Gas Research Institute's experience in commercializing industrial gas engine-driven heat pumps has found them to be economically competitive when applied to a process that can use the unique advantages and satisfy its conditions. The gas turbine-driven heat pump on a three-effect evaporator has a 1.4-year payback, and the rotary screw heat pump can reduce energy costs by 63% when compared to steam produced by a direct-fired boiler. Economic recovery of waste heat is very important when considering gas heat pump applications. Gas-fueled prime movers can also offer cost-effective variable speed operation and multiple restart. 7 references, 1 figure, 1 table.
