Micro-failure criteria for coated-fiber composites

Journal Article · · Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites; (USA)

Micro-failure criteria are proposed for the determination of the ultimate stresses of unidirectional coated-fiber composites. The failure criteria involve the microstresses induced in the fiber, coating and matrix materials by the composite external loading. The determination of the stresses within the phases is performed by utilizing a micromechanical analysis and a coated inclusion theory, in conjunction with the assumption of a sufficiently thin coating. The method is applied on three types of metal matrix composites with coated fibers. 11 refs.
