Electron-detachment spectroscopy of 20--100-keV H/sup -/ projectiles interacting with thin Ar targets

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. A; (United States)
Energy and transformed-velocity spectra of electrons emitted in the forward direction have been experimentally determined for 20--120-keV H/sup -/ projectiles traversing thin Ar targets. The spectra from H/sup -/ are surprisingly cusplike in shape even though single-electron loss is known to dominate. In contrast to the findings of Menendez and Duncan, who performed similar measurements at higher projectile velocities, target-induced structures in the electron loss to the continuum spectra are not pronounced in this velocity regime.
