Technology of glass and ceramics
This book summarizes the present state of knowledge of the manufacture of glass, ceramics and related materials with regard to traditional as well as to modern materials such as technical glasses, glass-ceramics, non-oxide ceramics, plasma-sprayed coating, etc. The introductory chapter deals with basic materials and systems, especially with their behaviour at high temperatures. The following chapters deal with particular technologies of glass, glass-ceramics, ceramics, refractories, porcelains enamels and glases. Considerable attention is given to the basic concepts of the chemical and physical processes taking place in particular materials and technologies, especially during the heat treatment (e.g. melting of glass, sintering and firing of ceramics). Theoretical principles of processes are supplemented with pertinent information in the form of tables on the technologies and on the properties of products.
