This paper presents a simple, yet mechanistic method for modeling the performance of cooling towers a cooling coils. Through the introduction of an air saturation specific heat, effectiveness relationships are developed. The advantages of this approach are its simplicity, accuracy, and consistency with the methods for analyzing sensible heat exchangers. The accuracy of the effectiveness models is as good or better than that associated with standard methods presented in the literature and these models have significantly less computational requirements.
