Radial limitation of the focal zone of a magnetoplasma compressor

An investigation was made of the radial limitation of the zone of a dense plasma focus on the dynamic, energy, and spectral characteristics of a high-current plasma-dynamic discharge. It is shown that magnetic constriction of the flow and the considerable axial component of the velocity make it possible to attain high tempertures of the plasma without danger of a breakdown, limiting the discharge of the walls, which enables the use of a radially limited discharge as a high-intensity source of radiation in the visible and near ultraviolet regions of the spectrum, with times of the increase in the intensity of a pulse of approx.1 ..mu..sec.
