Emission computed tomography apparatus

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5767382
An emission computed tomography apparatus is described for providing a tomogram image of a patient containing a dosage of radioisotope comprising: a couch for supporting the patient; a two-dimension detector for collecting data concerning the distribution of the radioisotope in the patient. The detector has an effectual visual field of length Y/sub D/ along the longitudinal axis of the couch; means for rotating the detector about the longitudinal axis of the couch in a series of N incremental angular steps; driving means for moving the detector relative to the longitudinal axis of the couch a given distance after each incremental angular step rotation of the detector. The sum of the given distances for the N incremental angular steps is less than Y/sub D/. For each incremental angular step any given slice of the patient is interrogated by a different portion of the detector to thereby minimize the generation of artifacts by the detector; position signal correction means for correcting the data from the detector as a function of the given distance of relative movement between the detector and the longitudinal axis of the couch; and means for constructing a tomogram image of the patient in response to the corrected output data.
