Pipe-laying surge set for Mideast, Africa this year

Oil and Gas Journal's annual worldwide pipeline-construction survey shows that builders outside the Communist area will lay 17,666 miles of pipe in 1977, 5% fewer miles than the 1976 total. The largest gains in pipeline work will be in the Middle East (up 97%) and Africa (55%). Regions suffering declines are the Far East (down 47%), Europe (34%), Latin America (18%), the US (17%), and Canada (14%). Of the 5537 miles planned by US pipeliners, 2839 will be for gas transmission.
