One of the first two high voltage direct current terminals in the Western Hemisphere will be on the Pacific hvdc. Intertie at the Celilo Terminal near The Dalles, Oregon on the Bonneville Power Administrations system. It is to be initially rated 1440 MW plus or minus 400 kV, but eventually will have a capacity of 2880 MW. A turnkey contract for the first terminal was awarded in April 1965. It included responsibility for the building design and outdoor yard layout. Attractive appearance was also a factor to be considered in the design of the station.
