Perturbative origin of an essential singularity in dimensional renormalization of quadratic divergences

It has been shown recently that in the 1/N expansion, the minimally subtracted dimensional renormalization scheme breaks down for quadratically divergent operators. The physical dimension epsilon = 0 becomes an essential singularity, the accumulation point of an infinite sequence of poles. In this article, it is shown explicitly how these poles are generated order by order in perturbation theory.
