The new compound CrZr{sub 0.75}Nb{sub 0.25}F{sub 6} has been synthesized. Structural determination by the Rietveld full-profile technique has been carried out on powdered samples. This compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group Pnma, with a = 11.5728(4),{angstrom}, b = 7.9671(2){angstrom} and c = 5.8203(2){angstrom}. The structure displays an antiferrodistortive order of elongated CrF{sub 6} octahedra induced by a cooperative Jahn-Teller effect. This result is compared with ferrodistortive order of CrF{sub 6} octahedra in the HT CrNbF{sub 6} form. The magnetic behavior of both CrNbF{sub 6} and CrZr{sub 0.75}Nb{sub 0.25} at low temperature is described.
