Estimation of. cap alpha. -decay energies and half-lives for neutron-deficient nuclei

An approximate relation connecting the parameters of low-energy resonance states of isobaric nuclei with the same spin and parity J/sup ..pi../ is derived on the basis of the threshold behavior of the S-matrix pole in the complex plane of the Coulomb coupling constant. In the case of ..cap alpha.. decay this relation is the Geiger-Nuttall (GN) law for isobaric nuclei. Analysis of the available ..cap alpha..-decay-energy and half-life data for even-even nuclei shows that the GN law for isobars agrees well with experiment. The laws that are found to govern the ..cap alpha.. decay of isobaric nuclei are used to estimate the ..cap alpha..-decay energies and half-lives of the unknown neutron-deficient nuclei /sup 158/W, /sup 174/Hg, /sup 200/Ra, /sup 202/Ra, /sup 204/Ra, /sup 224/U, /sup 228/Pu, /sup 230/Pu, /sup 234/Cm, and /sup 236/Cm.
