Damage in graphite-epoxy laminated composites due to low-velocity impact

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:5762531
An analytical and experimental investigation was performed to study the impact damage in Graphite/Epoxy laminated composites caused by a low-velocity foreign object. The impact damage comprising of matrix cracking and delaminations embedded inside the materials was the primary concern of the study. An analytical model as well as computer codes, 2DIMPACT and 3DIMPACT, were also developed for analyzing the results of line-loading impact damage.
